Recursive Geography
Mapping the Coloane hiking trail
The title Recursive Geography hails from the natural topography of Coloane’s hiking trail which is marked by a closed circuit and numerous bifurcations. This labyrinth-like track is characterized by its internal complexity while the unavoidable weather conditions always alter the appearance of each site, making it slightly different from the previous encounter (a picture of a particular spot is never conveyed the same way twice); hence, the occurrence of similarity or déjà vu, i.e. the experience of thinking that a new situation had occurred before produces a superimposition of perceptions (past and future images) and creates a densification and mystification of reality – the present image.
