Endless Pavilion
Place-Maker 2
What makes a place meaningful? Which are the favourable conditions for a significant public event?
Place-Maker is the name given to several architectural proposals, which consist of a multi-purpose structures, ephemeral by nature, that can be easily assembled and dismantled in a short period of time and they aim at generating an intense social event in the sphere of the public realm. In this sense, these architectural happenings are a form of cultural production, temporarily energizing the locus with an unexpected breath of freshness.
Endless Pavilion is an intertwined space comprised of several donut shaped structures with an overall height of two storeys. It may house several independent programs such as mobile library, live music box, exhibition venue, or it may also happen all at once in different parts of its spatial components. In a way, this looping space attempts at providing the general public with a unique experience, in which the diversity of the program coupled with the ever-unfolding space strives to offer an alternative location to the existing cultural venues.
The main feature of the Endless Pavilion is that it resembles an Unidentified Flying Object, which means that it lands where ever it needs to and in the same token it may disappear in a blink of an eye without leaving any trace. Hence, this architectural epiphany may literally be understood as a cultural phenomenon.
