Empty Vessel (Sunset Blaze)
During one's life, should we accumulate stuff or live a more lightweighted one?
Empty Vessel is a spatial composition attempting to question the material accumulation during one’s life and to measure it by the number of containers it can fit. The slight offset of each stacked container manifests reaching a higher state of imbalance. The passages allow visitors to experience the density and compression of the volumes, while paradoxically, the transparency and emptiness provide a sense of lightness. Ultimately, there is a choice to be made.
The proposed outdoor structure is mounted to resemble a number of 20-foot shipping containers piled on top of each other, making a pyramid of sorts. To achieve this effect the artists utilized the modular system of metallic scaffolding and the colored safety net commonly applied in the construction industry. Despite its immediate transparency provided by the colored net, these containers are not accessible to the general public and can only be walked by in-between the empty volumes.
