Banco Nacional Ultramarino BNU Main Branch

The concept behind the interior design is inspired by the emblematic BNU isotype, the iconic caravel, which represents the Portuguese spirit of adventure and a multicultural approach. In the same way that, in 1997, the expansion of these headquarters was shaped by a modern perspective while relying on this icon, represented by the curtain glass façade on top of the existing colonial building, resembling one of the masts of a caravel, this renovation of the interior of the branch maintains its symbolic heritage, inspired on the base structure of the caravel itself.

The traditional wooden hulls are modernized with white profiles that unite the whole lobby design, providing a dynamic space that conveys a sense of mobility and evolution in modern times. In this digital age the world is connected through fiber optics and wireless networks; with this in mind the overall materials were purposely chosen to give the visitors a sense of lightness, using the BNU brand identity, the white and ultramarine blue.

Integrated with the historic façade, this new layout was developed to follow the contemporary design trends of the digital age.
